Medical centre promises quality family, dental care
The Beaconhill Smile Clinic Team
With the aim of boosting the family healthcare system and good dental practices in Nigeria, Kleinburg Medical Centre and Beaconhill Smile Clinic have established a ‘family clinic’, with state of the art technology to meet international standards.
Speaking at the official opening of the centre in Victoria Island, Lagos, the Chief Executive Officers of Kleinburg Medical Centre, Dr. Akeem Babatunde Anifowose, and that of Beaconhill Smile Clinic Dr. Oluwaseun Akinbobola said the initiative was borne out of the need to meet the increasing health demands in the country.
Commending the efforts of the doctors, Chairman, Lagos State Civil Service Commission, Dr. Olujobi Osasanya, urged them to make their presence felt in the country, “I am delighted that these young people took this initiative, I admonish you to be determined in order to succeed. Osasanya, who is an employer of labour stressed that the white-collar job is not for life; hence people should make their money work,” he said.
Anifowose, is a family physician, trained in the United States, who decided to come home to set up a centre to offer Nigerian families a world class standard of best and affordable healthcare. According to him, Kleinburg is a German name that signifies stability and orderliness in a community.
Dr Akinbobola said the birth of the clinic was inspired by the overwhelming dental health needs in the country, “the clinic provides comprehensive dental care using state-of-the-art technology to deliver comfortable cosmetic and family dental services,” he noted.
Akinbobola spoke on the important role of each tooth, adding, “ We want to teach you what you can do to keep your teeth in your mouth for as many years as possible, and help boost your confidence and self esteem.”
He further lamented that dentistry is a profession in Nigeria that is not respected, as very small number of people pay attention to their dental care. He said the clinic would create awareness among the Nigerian populace on the need for dental check-ups, at least once in 6 months, thereby giving them the confidence to smile.
According to both doctors, the Centre will help reduce the number of Nigerians who travel abroad to receive such medical cares.
Shedding light on ‘family practice clinic’, Anifowose said it’s a practice that takes care of every member of the family from cradle to grave. Though he has not practiced in Nigeria, he has practiced in Canada for seven years, and he intends to represent his practice in Canada, by ensuring that people don’t have to go abroad to access these medical cares. Adding, “ since I have been in Lagos, I have been looking for a replica of what I practice in Canada, but unfortunately I have not found any.”
Anifowose believes that one does not have to go to a hospital to receive physical healthcare as “we do preventive care and cosmetic medicine, such as child vaccination, annual physical and so on are done here, with the unique nature of our clinic,” he said.
The centre specialises in cradle to grave care, urgent care clinic, women’s health clinic, wellness screening, internal medicine, infectious disease, physio/chiro massage, transplant preOP assessment care, weight loss clinic.
Beaconhill clinic on the other hand specialises in General dentistry, dental implantology, child dentistry, Orthodontics, cosmetic dentistry, oral and maxillofacial surgery and facial aesthetics.
To spice up the event was the master of ceremony, Rachuks Onoh, who thrilled the guests with his jokes, and an art exhibition of some of Femi Williams’ works, which proved not to be a contrast to the evening, as the artist believes that “art is like a therapy,” he also commending the doctors effort in putting up something different from the normal practice.
Also present at the event were; father of Dr. Anifowose, Otumba Anifowose Chairman, Nigerian Dental Association (NDA) Lagos chapter, Opeyemi Okoyinso, who represented NDA President.
